Saturday, April 21st, at 10:00 am at Smythe Academy in Sacramento the Purple Panthers (pictured above) took on their mighty crosstown rivals, the Purple Dragons, (not pictured) in a three inning t-ball game. Since both teams were attired pretty much the same it was hard to know who really was on first. She was wearing purple.
Here's an image from behind home plate. Assistant coach Kim Buchholz, is aiding and assisting. Obviously Ms. Fields, the batter, needs no assistance, as she rockets a line drive towards centerfield.
Lilly, after a pre-game warmup, confers with her cousin Isla, before her first at bat.
Lilly strides to the batters box, exuding confidence and exchanging some tough talk with the Dragons' catcher (not pictured.)
Lilly sends the first unpitch over the center field fence, clearing the bases.
After every batter hit and scored, the Panthers took the field. Here's Lilly on the mound, knees bent, glove down, ready for the mighty Dragons hitters.
After the game ended, with runs not having been counted, with every player safe or out and having scored multiple runs, the teams line up, the Panthers behind second base and the Dragons behind home plate. One at a time a player from each team circles the bases carrying a baseball that she gives to the next player in line, continuing until all six players have rounded the bases. Inexplicably, one of the Dragons gave her ball to one of the Panthers, who with two balls in her hands suddenly became paralyzed. After the relay both teams met and shook hands, as hard feelings and tough talk dissipated.
A secondary highlight for me was seeing Abigail's mother. Abigail is one of the Panthers.
T-Ball in the US of A, a granddaughter, Sacramento in the spring, tacos following, moms. Saturday in America.
